Careers

“A good education and equality of opportunity help to give our young people important choices when starting out on their career paths.  It is our responsibility as educators to ensure that school leavers are confident and well informed.  It is vital we recognise and nurture talent in our children and young people.

“In order to help our children and young people develop the skills, attitudes and understanding to become global citizens we must ensure they receive the best possible careers advice.  We need to ensure students are aware of all the choices open to them.  This is why quality careers advice is vital.  It is essential that they keep their options open for as long as possible. The revised curriculum and entitlement framework will offer students choices that may not have been available to you and I.  Schools are now able to offer a large number of courses that help them to broaden their experience and open up new opportunities.”Extract from Employment and skills Minister speaking at recent conference November 2011
