The aims of the Curriculum

Key Stage 3
Twenty five lessons are provided each week. Additionally, time is provided for registration, assembly and pastoral care. Extra curricular activities are offered during lunchtimes, after the end of the school day, and during weekends and school holidays.
The curriculum offered for Years 7 - 8 is designed to build upon the curriculum provided in the primary schools, to act as a foundation for future examination courses and careers, and to satisfy the National Curriculum requirements of breadth and balance. The following amounts of time are given to subjects in Year 7.

Foreign language teaching provides a choice of studying either French only, Spanish only or French and Spanish.
In Year 8 the curriculum remains the same except that Foreign Language time is reduced to 2 hours per week and Humanities time is increased to 4 hours per week.
Students taking both French and Spanish continue to have 3 hours per week of Foreign Language teaching. These students take a condensed Technology course to gain the necessary time.
Grouping Policy
We use a mixture of setting and mixed ability teaching when organising the grouping of students in Year 7. We receive detailed records of student progress from the Primary School and where appropriate, use these to set
