A-level Results Information

PLUME School in Maldon is yet again celebrating its best ever Advanced level exam results showing that students’  hard work and dedication has paid off.

Advanced Level results released today, Thursday August 18, show a 98.8 per cent pass rate in pupils achieving grades A to E. This exceeds the impressive performance of the last 3 years and is the best ever.

Some 56 per cent of entries resulted in A*, A or B grades which is the best ever performance in the history of Plume and 9% higher than last year’s record.  This is even more outstanding when seen in the context of a Sixth Form continuing to grow in size.  Plume has one of the biggest Sixth Forms in Essex with an increasingly wide range of courses attracting students from other schools in the area.

In addition to these impressive results, a record number of Plume students have applied for a place at university. This reflects a trend over the last few years of increasing university applications but this year’s total of 111 applicants is Plume’s highest ever number.  The vast majority have already achieved the places they aimed for, with a few awaiting decisions.

Many students have achieved outstanding Advanced level results this year:

Connor Brewer (A*A*BB) who will study Psychology at Exeter;  Dan Earl (AAA) who is going to Lancaster to study Maths;  Ethan Lawrence(AAA) who will study Drama at Royal Holloway;  Robert Taylor (A*AAC) who will go to Bath to study Computer Science;  Curtis South BTEC Double Distinction(Media) and Distinction in Photography will study Multimedia, Animation and The Web at Anglia Ruskin; Luke Harris(A*, A and Distinction) is going to study Motorsport Technology at Hertfordshire;  Sophie Finemore (A*AB) will study Psychology at Kent and will be joined by Gemma Pratt (AAB) studying Criminology; Zoe Green (AABC) will study Maths in Southhampton and will be joined by Sam Reynolds (A*AB) studying Physics and Matt McKinnell (AAB) studying Modern Languages;  George Green(A*AB) will study International Relations at Leeds; Hannah Rummey achieved AAC & a BTEC Distinction in Photography; Robert Whittaker (A*AC) will study Maths at Surrey.

In total, 30 of Plume’s Advanced level courses achieved a 100 per cent pass rate. These included the Cache course – 9 students got three As in their Level Three Diploma in Child Care and Education: Katherine Beale, Laura Bone, Claire Cook, Lara Davison, Hannah Diggons, Emma Elliston, Kelly Mosey, Esther Ouwehand, Alana Washourne.

In Further Maths, Media Studies, Physical Education and Technology every student gained A*-C grades. Every student taking Further Maths achieved an A grade.

Plume’s continued commitment to providing a broad curriculum including Applied A levels and BTEC courses has again led to some outstanding results.  31 students achieved double distinction (equivalent to two A grades at A level) in Interactive Media, Musical Theatre, Sport and Health & Social Care.

David Stephenson, headteacher of Plume School, said: “Once again, there is an enormous amount for our students to celebrate.  These are the school’s best ever results.

“The results represent tremendous levels of achievement by the growing numbers of students that choose to continue their education at Plume School and enable them to make a successful start to their careers in the current very challenging economic climate.

“Many of our students have achieved excellent results which can be attributed to their hard work over the duration of the courses.

“Credit must also go to their dedicated teachers, the Sixth Form College teaching and support staff and to students’ parents whose backing is invaluable.

“Many Plume students are now planning to study at degree level – I am very pleased that the vast majority who have applied to university have achieved the required grades and that those who have chosen not to apply have carefully considered their career options.

“Plume’s long-term involvement in the Aim Higher scheme, which encourages students to consider higher education after school, continues to have an increasing effect on the number of students wishing to take this route.”
