Plume School International Links
International Links is an important aspect of education at Plume School as a means of making the students more aware of the world around them by increasing their knowledge of different places, cultures and lifestyles. International Links is also an important development for Plume School as it promotes the school in the international community as well as locally.
The current International Links projects that are occurring at Plume School are:
- The Bansang Educational Appeal. Plume School sent out a 20ft container full of educational supplies to Bansang School, The Gambia in January 2010 and has also held a non-uniform Day in March 2010, in which we raised £2000 for the Appeal. We now have 22 MRC students who have become Bansang Educational Appeal Ambassadors and are responsible for developing the email link that is in the process of being set up between Plume School and Bansang School. This will improve the educational understanding of both the students in England and The Gambia so that they have a better understanding of what life is like in the different countries.
- World Challenge expedition to Argentina. This project was launched in April 2010 and we have 14 challengers who have signed up to take part in this expedition for 4 weeks in July 2011. The students have to raise £3600 each in order to take part in this expedition. Whilst they are away they will be completing a 10 day challenging trek at very high altitude, carrying out some community work at a local school and having the opportunity to experience life in a different continent, speaking a different language, many thousands of miles from home. The fundraising for the project will be taking part throughout 2010-2011 so please look out for and support our events.
- Chinese visitors to Plume School. During the end of June and beginning of July, Plume School was fortunate enough to host 2 Chinese teachers in conjunction with a project organised by Essex County Council. During their time here the ladies observed a large number of lessons, shadowed students at FRC and MRC and some students were lucky enough to be taught some basic Chinese and learn the differences between life in Chinese schools as opposed to English Schools.
