WHAT WILL THIS COURSE ENABLE ME TO DO?

In the twenty-first century it is important for everyone to be able to succeed in a career. It is crucial; therefore, to note that more and more jobs today are in companies based across Europe and/or around the world, so being able to speak a language can be a real asset among employers, setting individuals apart from other prospective candidates in the job market. In addition, a language is also seen as an important and highly regarded qualification by many top universities. During the GCSE course, French is taught in such a way that you gradually gain mastery of the skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and Translating in order to become as fluent as possible in the language studied.

WHAT WILL THE COURSE CONTAIN?

The vocabulary of the course is built around the three main themes of:

* Identity and Culture

* Local, National, International and Global Areas of Interest

* Current and Future Studies and Employment

These three main themes will enhance your grasp of the language and allow you also to gain an in-depth knowledge of the country, their culture and customs. The study of these themes will be explored through a series of relevant sub-topics further developing your linguistic skills and a wide range of vocabulary.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There are four parts to the exam, testing each of the four skills: Listening (25%), Speaking (25%), Reading (25%) and Writing (25%). Each skill is tested with a final exam at the end of the course. There are two levels of entry; Foundation and Higher, with the exams at Foundation level being easier. Each student will complete all exams at either the Foundation tier or the Higher tier.

QUALITIES I WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL ON THIS COURSE?

In order to succeed at GCSE French, you need to have demonstrated ability and a real commitment to learning vocabulary and understanding the grammar of the language.
