Year 7 Information

Welcome to our Plume Family

Mr J Chauhan (Head of Year 7)

Welcome all parents and carers to Plume Family. We are proud to welcome you to the Mill Road Campus (MRC) of Plume, Maldon’s Community Academy. What an exciting year for your child. The transition from primary to secondary is a huge but an exciting step. I am genuinely delighted that we will be working together to ensure that your child has the most successful transition and journey in Year 7. We understand the importance of making sure that your child has the best experience and start to their Plume journey. Our core values of Respect, Ambition, Resilience and Community flow through everything that we do as an Academy. It is important that all staff get to know more about your child. The transition process is extremely important; therefore, you will also be receiving regular communications and updates to help you become more accustomed to being a parent of a Year 7 Plume student.

Mrs K Rhodes (Assistant Head of Year)

Welcome to Year 7. My role as Assistant Head of Year is to ensure all of our students receive the very best support during their time with us here at Plume. Plume recognises the importance of our student’s wellbeing, and we endeavour and are fully committed to providing a safe and calm environment for our students, where they can access skilled support and guidance from their pastoral team. I am also the assistant designated safeguarding lead for the year group.

Our school ethos is built upon Our core values of Respect, Ambition, Resilience and Community. These values are expected to be demonstrated by all Plume staff, students and their families. These values are at the heart of the Plume family and with these they will enable our students to be the best versions of themselves.

For subject-specific matters, we encourage all parents and carers to communicate with class teachers if they have any queries, concerns or require information. Staff email addresses are available on the academy website www.plume.essex.sch.uk/staff-contacts

Year 7 tutor time (what the LG are expected to do on each day E.g., Monday equipment and uniform checks, Tuesday Reading, Wednesday assembly, etc). Please see a typical week for your child at Plume Academy. Confirmation of the structure of the week will be confirmed.

Extra curriculum at MRC

At Plume Academy, we offer a variety of extra-curricular activities. There really is something for our Year 7 students and we encourage students to be curious and discover their talents and develop the resilience to learn about new things. We showcase these through various school events such as our school production, sports competitions, Christmas concerts and school trips. We will also offer homework clubs to your child. We certainly encourage them to make use of this so that all students can manage their homework schedule effectively.

Home Learning

At Mill Road Campus, we fully recognise the importance of incorporating meaningful education. Home learning can help to reinforce and further develop the students’ skills, knowledge and understanding that the students acquire within the classroom.

The completion of home learning encourages the students to organise and develop themselves as independent and responsible learners, recognising how their own personal contributions can benefit their progress and attainment.

Most of the home learning for Mill Road Campus students will be set via our Satchel One platform. This will advise students and parents/carers on the tasks that are to be completed, the estimated length of time to be spent on each individual piece of home learning, as well as the required submission date.

Year 7 Key dates

Parents Evening is an excellent opportunity to receive feedback on your child progress and the impact that they are having in school. It is a very important that you are able to attend and make appointments to as many of your child’s teachers as possible.

Welcome to Plume Academy and Mill Road Campus. As Assistant Headteacher, I am honoured to lead our campus community in fostering an environment where Ambition, Respect, Resilience, and Community are at the heart of everything we do.

At Plume, we believe in:

  1. Ambition: Encouraging every student to reach for their highest potential and dream big.

  2. Respect: Cultivating a culture of mutual respect among students, staff, and our wider community.

  3. Resilience: Equipping our young people with the skills to overcome challenges and thrive in an ever-changing world.

  4. Community: Building strong partnerships within our school and beyond, recognising that we achieve more together.

My commitment is to ensure that these values are not just words but lived experiences for every member of our school community. Together, we will create an inspiring learning environment where every student can flourish academically, socially, and personally.

We aim to provide regular communications with our families to help prepare and guide your child through their time in year. In the meantime, should you have any further questions relating to the ongoing transition process, please do not hesitate to contact me and the Year 7/8 Pastoral Team on the emails listed below.

I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and ambitious students as we continue to build on Plume Academy's legacy of excellence.
